Things to Do in Northern Virginia/South Carolina Over Labor Day Weekend

Things to Do in Northern Virginia/South Carolina Over Labor Day WeekendThis weekend is Labor Day weekend.  For most people, that means taking time to relax with family and friends.  I know that's what I'll be doing.  If you're looking for a way to celebrate, I've compiled a list of things to do in the Northern Virginia/South Carolina area over Labor Day weekend:

SEPTEMBER 3, 2011
DC Blues Festival - Carter Barron Amphitheater (4850 Colorado Ave, Washington DC), 1-7pm.  Enjoy the best in blues music absolutely free.

Virginia Scottish Games - Great Meadow (5089 Old Tavern Rd, The Plains, VA), 9am-6pm.  Celebrate Alexandria's great Scottish heritage.  The weekend's festivities include highland games, an antique car show, sheep-herding demos, exhibits, children's activities and lots of Scottish food and drink to enjoy.  There's even a special concert featuring fantastic Scottish music (traditional and not) that is included with the price of today's admission.  If you want to just attend the concert, you can purchase a ticket for $10 after 4pm on the day of the concert.  Tickets for the 2-day event are $30 per adult.  Single-day tickets can be purchased for $20 per adult.  Children ages 5-12 are $5 each.  Kids under 5 are free with a paid adult.

SEPTEMBER 4, 2011
National Symphony Orchestra - US Capitol (East Capitol & 1st Streets, Washington DC), 8pm.  The orchestra will perform a free concert.

Tickets for the 2-day event are $30 per adult.  Single-day tickets can be purchased for $20 per adult.  Children ages 5-12 are $5 each.  Kids under 5 are free with a paid adult.

SEPTEMBER 5, 2011
Herndon Labor Day Festival - Town Green (777 Lynn St, Herndon, VA), 12-6pm.  Live music, great food, wine, micro-brews and a craft show.  What more could you want?  Entrance to the event starts at just $8.  But, if you want to join in on the wine and beer tastings, you'll have to pay $15 per ticket.

Labor Day BBQ Cook-Off - Newberry St Festival Center (Between Richland and Park Ave, Aiken, SC), 11am to 1pm.  Local "celebrity chefs" (members of local law enforcement) come out to cook BBQ for the public.  Tickets are only $10 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-13 and free admission for all kids under 6 years old.  All proceeds benefit The United Way.  This is the 4th year in a row that the City of Aiken has celebrated Labor Day by raising money for The United Way.  Enjoy great BBQ, get a little messy and help a great cause.

If you're looking for things to do in Northern Virginia/South Carolina over this Labor Day weekend, try one of these fantastic, fun, family-friendly events.  Most importantly of all, just have a great time and relax.  You'll see why this is such a great area to live.
