The modern shower is such a wonderful fixture. It has the amazing ability to clean our bodies, and at the same time, refresh our minds. I've got to admit that, although I really shouldn't, I tend to indulge in a long shower. It is a great opportunity to forget about the worries of the world and enjoy the hot water. This is the main reason I make sure I keep an eye on my shower and have a maintenance routine to make sure there is nothing wrong with it because I wouldn't be very happy if I turned it on one morning and I couldn't enjoy the hot water preparing me for the day ahead.

There are a number of things that can go wrong with a shower, but luckily if you catch them early, none of them should cause a major problem. The first is if the seal around the door is broken. This results in dripping water from the shower and the possibility of penetrating through the floor tiles or continuous wetness on the shower side walls. It could conclude in corrosion leading to mildue which is a health concern and is expensive to eliminate. The issue really is that you might not know where the water is going, and, therefore, where it is accumulating. Which means that you can't fix the problem until it is much more serious. So it's a good idea to reseal the shower door to avoid mold and rot.

You'll probably find on your modern shower the ability to raise and lower the shower arm and head so that people of different heights can adjust it accordingly. It is terrific until dripping starts from the conjoining parts. Hopefully your shower came with a wing nut which you can use to tighten the leaking joint. In many cases this will solve the problem, however, if it doesn't you'll need to take the joint apart and have a look for an o-ring or a washer that needs replacing.

If you find that the water just isn't coming out of the shower head at the same pressure that you're used to, it could be something as simple as the pin holes through which the water flows, being blocked. Try using a large needle or piece of wire to clear the holes of the blockage. If this doesn't work, it may be that you have a blockage further down, in which case you'll need to remove the whole arm from the wall. Use a shifting spanner on the hexagonal base near the wall and push anti-clockwise.

If this is not the issue then it might be that the caulking washer in the arm connection has deteriorated, in which case you must remove the parts and then install a new washer.

If it isn't any of these, it could be that the water pressure throughout the house has decreased. This could be caused for any number of reasons including blockages, pipes breaking and corroding, or it could be that the water authority has a problem with their main water lines. It is best to ring a plumber and let them find the cause of the decreased pressure as they will be experienced in such matters.
