But like most beautiful things in life, you need to take care of it. Before you plunk down good money for good cork, you should be aware of what is involved in taking care of it. Follow this advice and your cork flooring will last a long, long time.

You should sweep or vacuum your floor often to remove particles of dirt, which can scratch your floor. This should be done weekly to keep it looking smooth and shiny. A tip for cutting down on the amount of floor sweeping you have to do is to place floor mats at any doors that lead into a room with cork flooring. It is only polite for guests entering your home to wipe their feet before stepping onto your beautiful cork flooring.

Cork flooring calls for using cleaners made especially for hardwood. Never use just water on your floor. Clean up any spills as soon as they happen. When mopping, make sure your mop is well-wrung, rather than being saturated. Avoid harsh abrasive cleaners, oil, or ammonia-based cleaners. A monthly light damp mopping will keep your floor shining.

Your target humidity is 50%. Humidity getting too low is very bad for your floor because it causes the wood to begin releasing moisture, which leads to shrinkage. This is bad news for your floor. Using a humidifier may be an excellent idea because it will keep your room humidity where it needs to be. Don't risk ruining your cork flooring - keep your humidity in check.

Another thing to avoid is excessive sunlight. Fading can result from being exposed to too much sun. In rooms that have cork flooring, it is advisable to use plenty of shading.

Watch out for water seepage from plants or any other entity that holds water. If you have seapage, make sure there is something beneath the object that will catch the water before it ruins your floor.

If you're going to go with cork flooring, you've got to be willing to do the things that will keep it protected. Your cork wood flooring will bring you joy for years to come if you maintain it with the advice in this article.
