Fire Damage - Stop Chimney Fires That Can Destroy Your Home

Like many Americans and all abroad, we love the feel and sounds of a fireplace. The fireplace can and will heat your home and in some cases set the mood for romance. These fireplaces have been used for centuries past for heating and cooking in our homes. In some cases people would have several of them in a home to heat individual rooms and always in the kitchen for cooking. There were also more fires that came from the use of these fireplaces. Most of these fireplaces and chimneys might not have been cleaned too often, and they caught fire from all of the soot build-up in their chimneys.

This build-up of soot over time will cause a break down to the inside of the chimney and if you burn pine wood, it will really cause you problems. This type of wood will send a sticky smoke that will settle on this build-up of soot. Over time, you will have an increased amount of crackling and popping sounds coming from your chimney. The more pine wood you burn, the bigger this sticky mess will build. In some cases in trying to use this fireplace for romance, you might think that these sounds would help set the mood. In most cases this does, but you are also running the risk of having a fire that you really don't want.

This build-up of soot is called creosote, and it is very flammable so any little spark from a newspaper is enough to set off a towering inferno. This inferno will go up your chimney and up the flue, causing the sides of your chimney to peel. It will also send hot fireballs up through your chimney and onto your roof, and these fireballs can set the roof on fire. It will sound like a roman candle with the sending of these fireballs. It will also look like a mini-volcano that will burn your home up in minutes. This is the main reason some people do not use their fireplaces. They are afraid of starting a chimney fire.

In you have a fireplace outside, you can burn almost any kind of wood in them as they are not like the ones in your home. The soot will build up in them as well, but if they are not too close to your home, there will not be any chance of it setting the roof of your home on fire. If you have either one of these fireplaces, you might want to have them cleaned at least once a burning season or the main time that you are to use them. With the ones outside, you will want to have them done before you start to grill out for the summer. The one in your home you will want to have done in the fall season of the year before you start to need it to help in heating your home for the winter.
