Wood Blinds; Perfect For The Home
Wood blinds are able to bring warmth and homeliness to an interior, an atmosphere that is hard to gain with any other variety of window dressing. Another benefit is that wooden blinds will give privacy to an interior without looking sparse, when combined with wood floors and furniture they can also compliment decor excellently.
The charm that wood blinds bring is easy to underestimate, from both inside and out they give a sense of style and elegance. They are also excellent at keeping the warmth in a home, reducing those pesky fuel bills drastically. While they should not be used in humid rooms such as the bathroom and the kitchen, modern manufacturing techniques have meant that faux wood blinds are stunning replica that are hard to notice from a distance.
Typically wood blinds are manufactured from two different types of wood, ramin wood and bass wood. In the majority of cases bass wood is used for its attractive grain and pattern, it is also easy to stain and can be made to look either dark or light simply. Ramin wood on the other hand is the cheaper option; its grain is less distinctive but does have similar properties as bass wood and performs well as an interior design solution.
There is a myriad of varieties of wood blinds, from the commonplace horizontal slat type to the lesser used woven variety. The type of blind is purely down to personal preference and what will fit the decor of the home best. They also come in a plethora of different colours, stains and patterns meaning that those decorating are presented with numerous options for their home. The function of the blind can also be adapted using chords or rods to raise and lower the slats. In modern homes it is even possible to have motorized blinds that can be controlled via remote control.
The size of the slats is also a vital design decision. Usually smaller windows will suit smaller slats, around one inch is the industry standard. Two inch slats however will look great on any window but are particularly suited to larger windows and French doors. Once again the size of the slats is down to personal preference although it should be remembered that the larger the slat, the greater the viewing space when open. So for those with a great view outside of their windows, larger slatted varieties are probably the best option.
Obtaining wooden blinds is relatively simple. Many DIY stores will allow buyers to purchase blinds off the shelf although there are many online retailers that supply both made to measure blinds as well as prefabricated products. Prices vary although faux wood types are normally cheaper than the real variety.
Hopefully this article has put forward an argument for the use of blinds in the home. Fundamentally they are a practical and versatile window covering that can bring elegance to the home. Those looking for something special in their window dressings will be hard pushed to find a better option than wood blinds.
